Our Instructors
Duncan McAdam
I’ve devoted about 20 years of my life to martial arts, training in Taekwondo, Hapkido, Wing Chun, boxing, wrestling, and more. BGX is a place to bring those experiences together and keep exploring alongside my students.
Along the way, I’ve earned several black belts and advanced certifications, and worked professionally on stage and in film as a fight choreographer and stunt coordinator.
Despite my collection of colorful cloth and pretty papers, I consider myself a student above all else. I continue my own training and cross-training, bringing new skills and perspectives to BGX. Whenever possible, I also bring the people who have taught and continue to teach me into the school to share their knowledge directly.
My approach is discipline without dogma. I value the structure and traditions that helped shape me, and I believe every technique deserves to be questioned and tested. While forms have their place in training and tradition, I give priority to partner drills, bag work, and progressively resistant practice, including sparring as students become ready. Students learn how techniques hold up when an opponent responds and challenges them.
Everyone starts somewhere. My job is to meet students where they are, give them a challenge worth working through, and recognize their effort and skill as they walk the path.
Owner & Chief Instructor
Tim Lucabaugh
Instructor & Founder of Hard Target TacticsTim is a good friend of mine, a preferred training partner, and usually the first person I turn to when I want to test an idea (especially if someone has to get thrown). He brings a practical eye, admittedly fast hands, and above all else, an open mind and a willingness to think critically about training.
He has an extensive background in Wing Chun, which is how we became acquainted, a penchant for boxing, and has walked alongside me into any school, class, or seminar that would have us. He has helped me train for competition, brought me into force-on-force training for concealed-carry permit holders, and put extensive time, care, and attention into his Hard Target Tactics (HTT) curriculum.
Like myself, Tim continues to develop and expand his understanding of the martial arts, and I’m glad to have his perspective on the mats.
